GJEPC Holds Interactive Meet With SEZ Members

GJEPC organised an interactive meet with SEZ members on 7th July to discuss policy updates with respect to the SEZ Act, E-Commerce, and share updates on the Mega CFC project at SEEPZ, the India Jewellery Park (IJP), Mumbai, and ongoing activities and events.

The meeting was chaired by Suvankar Sen, Convener, SEZ Sub-Committee, and the speakers included Colin Shah, Chairman, GJEPC; Bobby Kothari, Co-Convener, SEZ Sub-Committee; and SEZ Sub-Committee Members Neville Tata, Ram Babu Gupta, Adil Kotwal, Member, and Mehul Vaghani.

The session, which was attended by around 60 participants, addressed the following points of discussion:

1) SEZ - Key achievements FY 2021-2022

2) SEZ policy updates

3) Policy updates with respect to the new SEZ ACT

4) E-commerce policy

5) Free Trade Agreements (FTAs)

6) Ongoing /Forthcoming domestic and international shows

7) India Jewellery Park (IJP), Mumbai

8) Member’s concerns and suggestions

The members raised various concerns and issues during the meeting to be taken forward by the Council, such as the need for a common platform to discuss future representations to the Government; a strong representation to be made to the concerned authorities against the equalisation levy policy; granting SEZs a Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status where the lowest of duties should be applicable to the units as accorded in various free trade agreements; stability in the policy regime in the new Act along with for issuance of separate notification /amendment before making any changes in policy or interpretation of the policy.
