St Barbara to donate US$100K

To donate US$100K to Papua New Guinea Earthquake victims

St Barbara will donate US$100,000 or equal to Kina 320,000 or A$130,000 to support Papua New Guinea Highlands communities impacted by the devastating 7.5 magnitude earthquake in February this year. The donation will be made through the Care Australia PNG Earthquake Appeal.

The earthquake was one of PNG’s most severe in recent years, resulting in scores of fatalities, the destruction of numerous villages and serious damage to food gardens, the vital Highlands highway and other infrastructure. Serious aftershocks have impacted clean up and recovery attempts.

Although the Company’s Simberi mine is located about 1,000 km from the earthquake and was not impacted by the event, a significant number of the predominantly national workforce are from the Highlands, where their immediate and extended families reside.

St Barbara MD & CEO, Bob Vassie said, “We have a number of employees from the Highlands and they are deeply concerned about the devastating impact of the earthquake on their families and home communities. We are committed to our PNG operations and this is a way to help support our employees and the country.”

As at 30 June 2017 St Barbara had Mineral Resources of over 9 million ounces of contained gold including Ore Reserves of over 4 million ounces of contained gold, as well as an extensive landholding comprising granted tenements and tenement applications in Australia and Papua New Guinea.
