Women’s Suffrage Centennial 2020 coin

The United States Mint’s 2020 Women's Suffrage Centennial Silver Dollar and Medal Set celebrates the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment’s ratification with a distinctive silver dollar coin and silver medal marking a signature achievement in our Nation’s history.

By giving millions of women citizens the right to vote, it profoundly changed our Nation by moving it closer to its promise of inclusion and equality. These inspirational designs not only pay homage to the Amendment’s adoption, but they also honor the many pioneers, activists, and foot soldiers in the movement who fought bravely and tenaciously for decades to make it a reality.

It is fitting that the coin and medal designs featured in the program were expertly crafted and engraved by women artists. The Women’s Suffrage Centennial Proof Silver Dollar and Medal Set features a 99 percent silver medal with its own unique designs available only in this set! Only 10,000 of these sets will be produced. The silver medal will be available in bronze sometime in 2021.

The obverse (heads): This design features overlapping profiles of three distinct women. Each woman is wearing a different type of hat to symbolize the many decades the suffrage movement spanned. The figure in the foreground is wearing a cloche hat with an art deco pattern and a button with the year of the 19th Amendment’s ratification. The inscriptions “Liberty,” “$1,” and “E Pluribus Unum” encircle the design.

Reverse (tails): This design shows “2020” being dropped into a ballot box, styled with art deco elements to indicate the artistic style of the era. “Votes for Women” is inscribed inside a circle on the front of the box. The inscriptions “United States Of America” and “In God, We Trust” are on the ballot box.

Surcharges in the amount of $10 for each silver dollar sold are authorized to be paid to the Smithsonian Institution’s American Women’s History Initiative for research and creation of exhibits and programs to highlight the history and impact of women in the United States.

Medal: Obverse: This design features a child’s reaching hand, amid adult women’s hands and arms holding up a heavyweight—a kind of “foundation” of stone. The Women’s Suffrage Movement was a struggle that continued across generations, with countless hands turned to the task. “Women’s Suffrage Centennial” is inscribed.

Medal: Reverse: This design honors the Women's Suffrage Movement by juxtaposing the text of the 19th Amendment, ratified in 1920, with the flag of the United States. “1920” is inscribed.
