Eliane Fattal Pensée Enamel and Diamond Ring

Designed as a pansy in bloom with enameled petals highlighted with old-mine-, rose- and old-cut diamonds size is of 6½ accompanied by a copy of the certificate and the original design from Eliane Fattal. As an artist and art historian, Eliane Fattal combines her keen eye and passion for the aesthetic to resurrect and skilfully reconstruct antique pieces from the extraordinary collection of estate jewels at S.J. Phillips, a destination known to the world's most discerning collectors. Archival treasures are reimagined as contemporary, wearable and often transformable pieces, with much of the inspiration taken from nature, using the fine skills of the on-site craftsmen.

This jewel features a 19th century pansy, styled as a ring with a diamond stem twisting naturalistically to form the shank. The original owner would have worn it as a brooch on the bodice or in the hat. Derived from the French pensée, for thoughts, as Ophelia in Shakespeare’s play Hamlet declares.

‘There are pansies that are for thoughts’. Pensée enamel and diamond ring the symbolism of pansy, also known as heartsease, brought to mind a beloved individual, from medieval times onwards this flower has been regarded as a symbol of sentiment sending the message: think of me.
